Everything here is for people who actually go out and look: what is up on a given evening, a guided walk through it, the 88 constellations drawn star by star, and the bright stars one page each. It all works on a phone, in the dark, with cold hands.
Plan a night
Everything below runs off the place and the night at the top of this page. Pick a day on the calendar and the panels move with it: which planets, deep-sky objects and bright stars are up that evening and until what time, and a map of the whole sky as it will look from there once night falls. The calendar marks two different kinds of good night: 🌑 for the darkest skies, and 🔭 for the ones worth running a camp on.
Faint objects — best seen under dark skies away from city lights, with patience and sufficient time
- Darkest skies — no Moon to wash out the faint things
- Good for a camp — a Moon worth showing people, gone by mid-evening
- Cell brightness is how much of the Moon is lit
- Weekends in gold
Hold it flat above your head with N pointing north and it lines up with the real sky — which is why east sits on the left, not the right.
